I hope everyone had a great holiday!

I certainly did. It was great to see everyone. We just got back to Seattle. It was a good trip, but I’m also happy to be back to normal. I like breaks, but I always forget what day it is and I generally lose all track of time, so coming back was a good thing.

Our kitten was certainly glad to see us again. He hasn’t left alone since we got here. He has also been super talkative at all hours of the day now. I think he feels the need to tell us what he did while we were gone.

The bad part is that he’s realized how to open doors as well as drawers. The door isn’t too big of a deal because we only have one, but I usually hide stuff in the drawers so that he can’t get to it while we’re sleeping, but that isn’t going to work anymore. He just pulls it open and gets whatever he wants from inside. He’s too smart for his own good.

In other exciting news I signed up to do the Color Run this summer. I know I have plenty of time to prepare, and deadlines always help me get work done. The only problem is that I suck at running. I’m about as slow as a turtle and as elegant as a baby giraffe. If I can complete the race I will certainly feel accomplished. I don’t even feel the need to finish it fast so long as I finish it.

Anyhow, I hope your Monday is going well, and I hope you all got books for Christmas. What more could a person want?

Happy Reading.

Hello, Readers!

I hope everyone is having a good morning. Mine has been productive with quite a bit of baking. I may dislike cooking (I’m also not very good at it), but I love baking! Not really sure why because cooking is a lot more forgiving than baking it seems, but oh well. I’m making this really cool creation for my best friend’s graduation party today. I’d tell you what it is, but I’m 90% sure she reads this blog, so I’ll only post pictures after she sees it. 🙂

Being home has been great. I’ve been able to see all of my friends, and it has been great to see my family. Coming home wasn’t exactly what I expected, though. It’s been great, and I can’t put my finger on how it feels different, but I’m pretty confident it’s because I haven’t been home for 5 months. 🙂

Well, I hope holiday planning is going well for everyone regardless of what holiday you celebrate.

Have a great day!

Plans for the holidays

Hello dear Readers,

I hope everyone is having a great holiday season. I’m just letting you know that I will be traveling the next few days so my posts will be a bit erratic.

I will try and post a few times, but I plan to be spending quite a bit of time with my family, so the posts might be just to check in.

Anyhow, I’ll try and post something in a few days.

Happy Holidays!

4 days till home!

Safe to say I’m excited. Nothing too great to report. I’ve worked a ton this week, so I haven’t really had the energy to write much. That and I’ve been sick, but everyone gets sick so no big deal.

I hope everyone is having a great holiday season! I hope you’re spending it with people you enjoy being around.

Happy Holidays!

The road to my Master’s degree has officially begun

Yep. I know I said a while back that was going to apply for my degree, but I finally got around to narrowing it down to two choices. Goddard College, which invented the type of program I’m applying for, is number one on my list. Their deadline is May 15th because they have rolling admissions.

The part I’m worried about, apart from applying and not getting accepted, is I need three letters of recommendation.  I can only think of one person who could give me a letter of recommendation for a master’s program. How am I going to find two other people who can give me letters of rec?

At least I have a few months to figure that out….

Anyhow, I’m getting super excited for Christmas! My family isn’t very religious, but I love this time of year because I think it has the potential to bring out the good in people. I’m not saying it happens to everyone, but the potential is there.

Well, have a good rest of your day, dear readers. Thank you so much for sticking with me. I really do appreciate it!

I get to go home for Christmas!

This is the highlight of the week. I had bought the plane tickets before getting confirmation from work because prices would  have been too expensive, but now I found out I got the time off. Thank goodness. I was a bit worried, but I need to go home. I miss my family, my friends, and my animals. I love our kitten, but I wish I could just bring all of my animals to Seattle.

I get to take care of my silly dog when I get back. He decided it would be a great idea to tear his ACL while leaping off of our deck to chase cats. He’s not the brightest bulb in the bunch, but he’s a dear and kind of adorable. I’d put a picture up, his cast has Christmas trees on it, but I can’t get my stupid phone to send the picture over to my computer.

Other than that it’s been pretty boring around here.  Got some Christmas shopping done. Trey and I bought another weird cheese. The wheel that our piece was cut from was rubbed in espresso beans. So good.

I’m cooking chili tonight for dinner. It’s kind of my specialty. I don’t put beans in it, but it has tons of other stuff. Plus whiskey. I put whiskey in my chili. I am a ranch girl after all.  I may burn chicken if I try to cook it on the stove top, but my chili is great. I put jalapenos and corn (plus the usual culprits) in it and let it simmer until the juices have thickened. I’m drooling just thinking about it.

I can’t forget the corn bread! That always comes with the chili. Corn bread with honey is by bar one of the best comfort foods. Chili is too for that matter. My dad thinks that you need to put jalapenos in the corn bread to make it taste better, but he’s wrong. It is a constant issue of debate in our house.

Adventures of the dastardly kitten

I had two hours of sleep last night thanks to the little bugger. He may be adorable, and the sweetest thing ever, but he also bites my nose in the middle of the night, and the one toy he has with a bell in it is his toy of choice at 3 in the morning.

Chrono 1471228_10202648559237420_2096625748_n

This was him hiding under the covers. He can’t even make himself look innocent.

You’d think taking the toy away would solve the issue. Ha! Nope, for he is far more clever than I give him credit for sometimes. He has found that if he claws at the walls that makes enough noise to wake us up. So now it’s into the afternoon, and he’s asleep.

He doesn’t even sleep in a place where I can wake him up and play with him. He sleeps under the bed in between the boxes we have under there. The only time he sleeps somewhere accessible is when we’re getting ready in the morning. He sleeps in the bathroom sink at that point.

Well, sorry this post has been mostly a rant about my cat. Oh! We weighed him while at the vet. He’s four months old and 10 pounds. That seems big doesn’t it? Maybe that’s just me, but it seems like he’s going to be a big one.

I’m off to try and take a nap while he’s asleep. 🙂

Have a great rest of your day!

Adventures into cheese

I’d like to say that the title is a metaphor for some deep and intellectual thing, but it’s not. Trey and I have literally been trying different cheeses for the past week or so which has been quite fun. Assuming you like fermented dairy, which we do.

It seems we’ve been having lots of other adventures when it comes to figuring out how to best live in our apartment. I was not under the impression we would still be figuring things out four months after having moved here, but it certainly is the case. We just now are figuring out that a coat closet can be put to a much better use as a pantry. Now we actually have counter space to cook. You’d be surprised how much of a difference that makes in terms of wanting to be in the kitchen.

On another good note my writing is coming along quite well. I still need to take the time and work on some things I haven’t touched in a while, but I feel like I could get some progress made. It’s just that kind of day.

Well, this post was a bit random, but I hope that it amused you in some way, dear readers.

Have a great rest of your day!

I feel like I neglect some of my characters

This is a rather random post, but I was working on one of my stories today and I felt a sudden regret that I wasn’t working on another one. I felt like I’d left my characters out to dry. I don’t know if anyone else feels this way when life becomes a bit more demanding and it’s hard to find time to write, but I certainly felt that way today.

I mean, I’ve worked on that story recently, but I felt like those characters were just sitting there watching me write another story….I feel like I sound a bit mental.

Anyhow, just wanted to muse over lonely characters.

I hope everyone had a good weekend, and Monday doesn’t come too quickly for any of us.

Happy Reading!
